Update number 2! New Faces

I'm starting a whole new post for this one, because there are some folks I'd like to welcome and I don't want their hellos to be drowned under a lot of other things. So, without further ado…

Welcome to my garden, Rune!

Rune is a Desert Rose. I named this one after him for a few reasons. 1) It has a simple flower when it blooms, but you can’t help but see it when it does. 2) It doesn’t need a lot of TLC. Just a little water now and then and someone to tell him he’s beautiful today. 3) He’s attractive to the aphids (which is why I think they’re not eating the roses this year…) and they flock to him whenever there’s a chance of a bloom coming up. *smiles* Since Rune’s DM habit can be fixed in a visit or two every so often and the girls flock to his side when he makes one of his rare appearances… *smiles* It seems rather appropriate!

Welcome to my garden, Mystica!

Mystica is an old fashions Bleeding Heart. I was looking for something that fit her and I think this one suits her perfectly. I’ve loved these flowers for a while, now, and am honestly shocked these are growing. I’ve held off naming them until I was sure I could get her to stay happy and not die on me. She’s a climber, never happy with staying along the ground of the garden and always reaching towards the sun. She’ll curl around anytahing she can get a handle on, to the point that some older gardeners consider her a weed. They’re just not looking at the beauty that is my sister, though. For when she blooms, she sheds her love to the world in a line of graceful hearts, dripping with pain for those who walk in the world around her. For those of you who really know Mystica, you’ll agree, I think, that this flower is perfect for her. Some may consider her a weed because they don’t understand her and it’s not until she blooms that they realize what a treasure she really is. Welcome to my garden, sister. Feel free to bloom here. *hugs*

Update for today... lots of faces appearing and a few new ones, too!

Spring is officially here, says my garden! I finally got out at the beginning of May to get my stock of new bulbs in the ground and my efforts have not been in vain! It's always nice to see plants growing. Makes you feel good when you've taken care of them well enough that they rise up and smile at you, doesn't it?

Ah, well, this one's going to be a long one, so let me get started!

First up, a rose bush that I have complained about and fretted over since we moved here is blooming! No aphids to eat it up, this year! Whoo-hoo!

Next up is an update from a few familiar faces.
Welcome back to Ursula, who is always a commanding presence. Even when I ignore her for years, she still greets me when I walk outside!

Next up is Loraine, who is my favorite flower. Not because I named her after my character, but because I love calla lilies! :D She’ll start blooming next month, but she’s already sporting some lovely foliage!

And then Kynwric. Remember I told you that he died on me and I bought new bulbs because I refuse to let him slip through my fingers? *smiles* I told you I’d win! Here he is again! This picture was taken at the beginning of the month when just one little shoot from my new bulbs had appeared. I’m pleased to report that this guy is getting HUGE already and that his brother is sporting 5 shoots and working on catching up quickly! *smiles*

And then there’s Paetric, who is as succulent as ever! He’s nearly outgrowing this pot, so he may need a new place to live soon. He’s not showing any signs of slowing down in his growing pattern, though!

Here’s Anders, who doesn’t seem particularly happy in his new pot. *sighs* Persnickety little fella! I’m going to have to figure out why he’s not happy and get him turned around quick! Purple is just not his color!

And here’s Alexandra. This is a night blooming crocus that bloomed the week after we came home from the hospital. *smiles* How could I name it anything else after that?

OK, I think that’s everyone you’ve already met. I’ll post another entry for the new faces in my garden. *smiles* I’m very pleased to see them!

Two new faces this week!

I guess Mother Nature is just going to charge on and ignore the cold we've been having this week. Hopefully it's a sign that Spring is coming! *crosses her fingers*

There are two new faces in my garden this week!

I'm pretty sure this one is Dwyn. I have a blue Hyacinth and a White Hyacinth. The White one is Dwyn. We'll see, I guess. ;)

This one doesn't have a name, I don't think. These are my daffodils. I'm really glad to see them this year and I am really looking forward to the blooms!

So that's it for this week! I'm looking forward to seeing who pops up next! :)

Welcome back Twinny!

When we lived on 61st Street, these little flowers started growing in a patch of thick grass in the backyard. I moved them to the front on either side of the sidewalk and they started growing like crazy! When we moved, I brought some with me!

Until this year, they didn't really grow very much. I think they're happy where they are now, though, because I came home from work today and saw this. *points up and smiles*

So, welcome, Twinny! The first flower blooming in my garden this year! :D

Welcome to 2010!

I haven't spent much time in my garden since I found out I was pregnant, but I hope that's changing this year. I have a REALLY BIG ORDER coming from Michigan Bulb which should be here any time now and I've got plants springing up everywhere! It's my goal to keep this updated a bit better this year and really use it to keep me motivated to go work in the yard! :)

Wish me luck!

Other plants

Alright, this is the part of my blog where I show off the interesting plants that don't have people attached to them. LOL I've got a couple of new ones and a surprise or two in my front yard that I think ya'll will like!

This is the Swedish Ivy I just bought. I have an addiction to weird looking plants and this one fits that bill rather well, I think. LOL It's heavy, too! The leaves are thick and waxy, really interesting little plant.
This is a plant called Gomphrenia. I bought Gwen some for Mother's Day and have been hunting for more ever since. I finally found it a few weeks ago in the GC of Home Depot. I'm trying to get some Jasmine and Swedish Ivy to root in the pot with it, so that's what all that other stuff is.

And for the surprises, I was pulling out of my driveway about a week ago and happened to glance up. Guess what's growing among the azaleas in front of my house? A lavender Hybiscus! And it's HUGE! And...it's blooming! So PRETTY!!!
And then, there's this little guy. I have no idea what he is, I don't know where he came from. He's just growing next to the Impatients next to the driveway in front of the porch! But...he's cute, whatever he is. LOLSo, that's it for now. I know I missed a few of you and I'm determined to fix that soon. It's raining, though, so it'll have to wait another day! I noticed I didn't get a picture of my new blue/purple delphinium's blooming, either, so that's gotta change...

Container Garden

Alright, here's the container garden in my back yard. I used that old broken bench and just covered it in pots. LOL I think it looks rather ineresting!

Hero's update

And last, but not least, Hero. This thing is about 3 feet tall now and the blooms are pretty darned cute in the sunlight. LOL I have no idea what this plant is called, either, but it seems to really like the sun in the front yard.

Kia's Update

I BOUGHT NEW KIA'S (Lobelia)!!! I found her in this Red, White and Blue arrangement at Home Depot, so she came home with me. The Red will look familiar, more Kellys (Red Pentas). The white flowers are Geraniums. Here's hoping these last longer. Kia's already looking like she wants her own pot. LOL

Silver's update

Here's Silver (moonflower)! :D He's vining so beautifully, I think he's going to take over this thing any ol' time now!

Introducing Jade!

I've been looking for something that was decidedly Jade for a while now. I think I finally found it. LOL Jade is a "Purple Passion." My mother in law gave these three to me last weekend and they're already looking like they need new pots! At any rate, welcome to my garden, Jade!

Introducing Andy!

I finally found something prickly and lovable in my garden. LOL I've had this Christmas Cactus for about...8 years? I used to have it on my desk at the Insurance company, then I took it home and it was a house plant. I nearly killed it. Isn't that nice? Mom took them (all of my house plants) when I moved and then gave them back to me when I got settled. I'm sure the only reason this thing is still alive is because of Mom. Since then, I've put it outside and it seems to like being outside more than inside. Sounds familiar, doesn't it?

Kyn's Update

And here's Kyn (Elephant Ear). He's getting REALLY big and I may have to pull Leane out of his pot so she can get some sun soon. LOL

Lor's Update

Alright, here's Lor (Calla Lily-purple, I believe, but she may be pink *shudders*). She had a hissy fit with the heat last week, but we're alright at the moment! She should be blooming in the next few weeks. :)

Ursula's Update

Ursula seems to be enjoying her new home, too. I'll post a pic of my container garden in another post, but my Ursulas (a Lemon Drop Stalked Bulbine) are enjoying their new pots!

Mo's Update

Here's a pic of Mo, who is suddenly growing like a weed! I'm guessing she's enjoying the sun in the front yard, now that she's away from the Josh's and Ben's?

For the record, I have no idea what Mo is. Someday, I'll get around to figuring her out. LOL Some day...

Kelly's Update

Here's a pic of my Kelly's (Red Pentas), which normally don't bloom until fall. As you can see, she's confused and already deciding to bloom... LOL

My New Blog!

Welcome to my new Blog space. This will soon host all of my interesting tidbits about my garden. Between this and my photobucket page, we'll get pics and everything up! whoo-hoo!
